CURIOUS ABOUT COUS COUS

I made cous cous to go with a vegie dish for a French friend recently and she was amazed at my method. I just put the cous cous in boiling water with a knob of butter, perhaps some fresh coriander or spices, and boil the liquid away. She was mystified and said her family never made it like that - it was more grainy, rice-like. I think it tastes great the way I do it and she seemed to enjoy it, but I'm curious to know of any other methods people have......
